Welcome! (PLEASE READ FIRST)

Welcome to the Environment Artist's Survival Kit!

This course will be a deep dive into the essential topics that you will need to learn to become a confident environment artist.

The Survival Kit has been designed to act as not only a course to get you started - but also as a reference guide that you can open up at any time to support you. The information found in this kit will be useful in future projects when performing tasks such as grass & foliage creation, enabling RVTs, retopologizing assets, to name a few.

If you ever forget how to do something when creating your future environments, the Survival Kit has your back.

While this course is intended for beginners, it is highly recommended you have a basic understanding of the software that we are going to use in this course.* If you are a complete beginner to Unreal Engine, take an extra hour before you start to learn how to navigate the user interface, this will save you a lot of frustration.

I will be creating a small free add-on for the Survival Kit that will teach the absolute basics of Unreal Engine in the next few months, so keep an eye out for that.

This course will be a little different than other courses you've done. With an emphasis on self-development, the Survival Kit will aim to empower you. You will be encouraged to take the basic concepts you learn here and implement them in your own way which will result in different environments that will be unique to each student and their own creativity.

Blindly following instructions isn't a very effective way to learn, so that's why at the end of each lesson, you will be allowed free reign over your project to create and implement what you've learned with the files we've provided.

We highly encourage you to experiment, take risks, and make mistakes, as this is the absolute best way to learn this complex and extremely rewarding discipline of game art.

Remember; this course was not designed to be completed in one sitting. Take breaks, walk away from your PC and get some fresh air. You WILL hit roadblocks and get frustrated, so take your time and enjoy the process.
